As part of the lead up to our school gala the student council held a wacky hair day. In turn we contributed a bottle for the mystery bottle stall. Here are a few of the wonderful and wacky creations that were spotted around our school.

Wiggley Piggley
Today we had a very special 11 week old piglet named Wiggley Piggley join us. He got to spend the day at Stratford Primary School and was shared around the classes. Mrs Rova's brother, Glen, is hand rearing the piglet. It was the runt of the litter and the mother pig was not treating it very nicely so it had to be taken away.
We got to help heat up his milk and feed him a bottle several times throughout the day. He sure would get hungry and gulp the milk quickly. Sometimes he would get covered all over his snout in milk too. When he was walking around the classroom he would sniff at us and he followed Mrs Rova everywhere. Room 15 hopes that Wiggley Piggley can come back another day for a visit.

Koru Kiwi
Koru Kiwi and Cecilie from Swim Safe New Zealand visited the junior school. We celebrated the super success we have in swimming. Koru Kiwi gave out some cool prizes - swimming bags, caps, drink bottles and towels. We learnt about how to correctly fit a life jacket and also ways to stay safe in the water. Koru Kiwi was an amazing dancer and we all got to have a boogie with him before he left. Please talk to your child about what they learnt from Koru Kiwi's visit.
Code of Care
Room 15 have been busy writing our own 'Code of Care'. This is a variety of ways that we think are important to care for our school. We published our ideas using vivid and paint on our own bunting flag. The class loved using the hairdryer to ensure it was dried efficiently. Each flag will be joined together to create our class bunting. Please come and view the final product hanging in our classroom.

Library Time
Every Friday Room 15 goes to the library. Mrs Rogers reads a book. We get to pick a new story to take home. Mrs Rova sometimes reads our story to the class. We like going to the library because there is so many books.

Rubbish free lunches
Today Jake and Masyn came to visit Room 15 to remind us about our attempts at bringing a rubbish free lunch to school. We talked about re-using packages (chip packets to wrap our sandwiches, bread bags, zip lock bags) and also using small containers. We are working hard to remember to put all our rubbish back in our lunch boxes to help reduce the rubbish in our school. Room 15 are doing a fab job and to reward our efforts we were given a tattoo. Jake and Masyn helped some of us to put them on. The tattoos say "We can be waste heroes"![]() |

111... What is your emergency?
Today the junior school were visited by three different emergency service vehicles - a police car, a fire engine and an ambulance. Each class got to visit them and ask questions. We each got to have a go at using the fire hose and we also got to venture inside the ambulance. Johno (our local police officer) showed us some of his uniform and we were shown how they use the handcuffs - on Miss Wilson. This was all apart of our inquiry unit around keeping ourselves safe. The children have lots more questions that we will investigate in class. Please ask your child about what they learnt today and we encourage you to help them to learn their home address in case of an emergency.

Chiefs Rugby players visit our school
We were fortunate enough to have a visit from Chiefs rugby players Hika Elliot, Shaun Stevenson, Sama Vaka and Chase Tiatia. They bought some cool flags and gave them out to some of the children.
There was a question and answer time and Mr Moore even gave the players a quick maths test. It was exciting for our school to have them visit.

Scrambled Eggs
We blew the yolk and the white out by making two holes - one in the top and one in the bottom of the shell. Using the left over eggs we decided to made scrambled eggs with Marlene. We got to pick some fresh parsley from our school garden to chop up and add. Once we had cooked it we got to share it with all the class. Some children did not like the taste of the parsley. Wonder wall - "I wonder..."
Room 15 created a wonder wall because we
often ask Mrs Rova questions that she can not answer - sometimes due to time and often because she doesn't know the answer. We each made our own bricks and our "wonderings" are posted onto them. We can explore the answers independently in class, at home, in discovery time or we can research the answers together as a class. We can each add our "wonderings" to our bricks as the come up.

Koby asked about how chocolate sauce was made. He went home and with the help of his Pop, found this recipe and bought it into class to share.
With support, Koby then asked Marlene if during discovery time she could help him to make chocolate sauce. She thought that was a great idea and she will also bring her ice-cream maker. YUMMY - We can not wait to try his chocolate sauce.

Izzy posed a question "How are tissues made?" She went home and researched it and with the support of her Dad has set up her own blog.
